The 50 Year Horizon

Are we cavemen about to touch the face of God?

As the rate in which we double our knowledge and understanding of life, universe and everything increases and humanity slowly strips away the very building blocks of reality, there's no doubt that intellectually we have become a force to be reckoned with. But there's a problem; our intellectual growth has far outgrown our emotional capacity for control. The question therefore is, will our ability to control base emotions and instincts grow sufficiently to match the power of our intellect in opening doors to understanding the universe and all the forces in it? In other words, can humanity survive long enough to reap the rewards of the powers we are developing, or are we doomed to destroy ourselves because we are unable to employ emotional restraint?

It is a shame that we cannot always equate 'knowledge' with 'understanding'. So many out there with the 'knowledge' but cannot put it into words to make others 'understand'. The more people there are out their explaining the technical and intellectual aspects of modern life (and a willingness to listen and absorb it) the better.
